Fiesta Friday - Ultimate Blog Party 2011

Ultimate Blog Party 2011

It's the ultimate Fiesta Friday, the Ultimate Blog Party 2011 is on. It's one of  the coolest party of the year, check out last year's. You should join the party, this is my 3rd year partying and I love finding new places to hang out at (like I have that kind of time!) For my fellow readers who have no idea what I'm talking about, this blog party helps spread the word about other blogs, mompreneur sites, and of course fabulous prizes.

For those of you hopping over, once again welcome to Not Just A Mommy! Why this title? Because I have party planning on the brain and although I have 6 and 9 year old boys, and seem to be constantly driving them to soccer, basketball, playdates and all up in school committees and activities, I'm not just a mommy. I love to blog about all things entertaining, crafts, a little bit of ranting and raving on random stuff.

Here is a quick rundown of my madness; in my left hand column, visit my fabulous Sponsors, I can personally vouch for them all, pretty much have bought stuff from everyone!

Check out 'Where's The Party At'  for parties I've thrown, my 'DIY Party Fun' are a few projects I've worked on with tutorials, and 'The Gospels' are a must-read list of entertaining books, I've read them all and own most of them.

As if you have any more time, you must visit the people on my 'My Heroes' list, they are my blog crushes, and are all so full of so many creative ideas, I could eat them up! I also blog for Today's Mama - Seattle and Create My Event, great places to visit and full of inspiration!

I also channel my crazy into regular features; Sundays are Drink Of The Week, a fabulous drink recipe or drink-related items both virgin and alcoholic.

For Tuesday Tip / Tutorial /Trend I share giveaways and freebies, awesome tutorials, and what is going to be hot and you saw it here first.

We Go/Read/ Wednesday chronicles my madcap trips around the Pacific Northwest or some other fabulous place I would love to visit.  Sometimes I get to read a real book and not my Entertainment Weekly and do a mini book review.  Sometimes I spotlight a fave blogger or Etsy shop.

Fiesta Fridays are all about the parties; my own or those from around the Web, inspiration boards, the works.

Don't be afraid to join my merry band of stalkers, become a GFC friend or Facebook or Twitter. If you'd like to admire from afar, sign up for email updates...for every 100 new GFC followers, I host a fabulous giveaway that is open to all of my followers on every platform.  I just wrapped one up but we'll be zooming in on 600 before you know it.

Now, it wouldn't be a party without a door prize, and I have an exciting one for you! I'm giving away a $25 gift certificate to Bake It Pretty, my favorite online party supply place.  They have everything I love, candy molds, paper straws, pretty cupcake liners, the works! I love getting their packages!

To enter to win the $25 Bake It Pretty gift certificate - Simply visit 5 Minutes For Mom and fill out their prize entry form. Winners will randomly be selected on their site after April 8th.

(Not) Food For Thought Redux

A couple of years ago I did a post that seems perfectly appropriate for April Fool's Day tomorrow, especially if you are looking for some fun to make with the kiddos (or yourself). Since I'm all about not reinventing the wheel, I thought I would repost it, and to show I'm not completely lazy, added some new ideas.

I love the idea of making treats that look like other foods; here are a few fun ideas to try for your next kid's (and kids at heart) shindig.

FamilyFun Not Food collageA tasty plethora of goodies from FamilyFun; chicken not pie, sweet sushi, fried egg sundae faux french fries, and pizza cake.

Not food collageA Baked Creation's clever candy kabob. For my son's SpongeBob party, I was inspired by FamilyFun to make Krabby Patty hamburger cupcake toppers. How in love are you with Smiley's Sweets and Creations popcorn cupcakes?

Hello Cupcake collageTreasures from Hello Cupcake! include an inspiring TV dinner; the drumsticks are candy melts and the "gravy" is caramel sauce.

Our pepperoni pizza cookie from last year...

How could I forget my grill cakes?

I couldn't help but to share this, an eye-popping and amazing collection of cakes from Debbie Does Cakes And Blogs from a seafood boil cake to buffalo wings to a Big Mac!

Check out last year's post for more fun inspiration!

We Go Wednesday/Fiesta Friday - Seattle Meetup/CakeSpy

Before we launch into today's musing, it's time to announce the winner of my Every 100 Followers giveaway!

Comment #17 - Darcy said...I follow on gfc and I would love to make some awesome Easter cookies with my kids!

The winner has 24 hours to contact me or an alternate winner will be drawn! Didn't win this time? Don't worry, we'll be at 600 GFC followers before you know it, and I may sneak in another giveaway before then.

Last week I had the pleasure of putting together a meet-up of my favorite peeps I stalk follow who are in the Seattle area.  Everyone was having all these fab meetups with Martha, and down in Florida and New York, blah blah blah and I hate to be left out of the party.  I know there are many more and as I start figuring out who they are,  I will be adding them to my list.  In a good way, not a weird-sitting-outside-your-home-at-3 a.m. way.

To make it more less stalky legit Jessie AKA CakeSpy offered to host at her shop.  This is she, and Porkchop...cuteness, right?  More on her shop later. But first...as a hostess I detest lateness, whether I'm running late or people are running late, or people running late make me late.  I was late.  Let's just say I was on the wrong side of town on the same street.  40 minutes late.  Yeah.  I've never done that. I blame my shiny new GPS.  Ugh. Those little E's and NE's are very important out here in Seattle.
But no matter, I got there and everyone was there and I set up and got them rolling and it was so much fun!  Who was there you ask? These fabulous ladies....CakeSpy, Mia Cupcakes (AKA Libby), Not Martha (AKA Megan), Love Big, Bake Often (AKA Tania), Jenny Cookies (AKA Jenny), CathysWraps (AKA Cathy) and Stephmodo (AKA Stephanie)

Check out the cute candy baskets from CathysWraps; they are her cupcake liners that she just added a coordinated paper handle!

MMMM....brownie bites....

Tania brought these super cute lavender shortbread treats in Garnish berry boxes.

Cupcakes tricked out as party favors...have I mentioned how much I love acrylic boxes?
I REALLY love this shot by Megan...see how something so simple can look so amazing?

And here are a few shots of CakeSpy, the store...tiny and jammed back to the rafters and full of so much fun stuff to look at! Amazing prints from her own hand and local artists, sweet gifts, you name it, she probably has it!

See the pies on the walls? Yup, that is her work...

Cubbies full of yummies!

Thank you ladies for coming! Next time it will be bigger and badder and may even include alcohol!

We Go Wednesday - Home Cake Decorating Supply Company

Some of you have asked where is it I've been going to feed my candy mold obsession? Well, I've finally remembered to take my camera so I could share exactly where I've been going. Home Cake Decorating Supply Company in the Seattle/Northgate area.

I was over trying to order stuff online and paying ridiculous shipping. I completely stumbled across a review last year and made my way haste. I walked in and fell in love, and have been indoctrinating disciples ever since. It takes a moment to get used to all the stuff! It is literally piled to the ceiling.  I took my friend out there last week and she was promptly sucked in and bought $40 worth of supplies. I only bought one candy mold and safari print cupcake liners. I did so good. This trip. There is just too much stuff, a whole wall of cookie cuttters, a corner crammed full of flavorings and colorings?  The front counter can barely see the customer.

She has everything for every level of cake and candy decorating.  Need dolls for a cake, or whatever? Check.

Just a few candy molds...

There are my friend's feet next to GIANORMOUS cake pans.

Need a few tart pans?
Something to top off a cake or two?
Of course she's all geared up for Easter and spring!

Need giant candy carrots and bunny cookies for Easter? Check and check.

She does ship all over so give her a jingle, sorry, she's not online.
