Fiesta Friday - Pottery Barn's Spooky Halloween Party

Have you seen Pottery Barn's latest party planner feature? Their party takes a cue from the frightful and delightful American classic,“The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". From free party downloads for invitations to decorations and creepy recipes, they've covered everything. I can't get enough of the skeleton hand drink dispenser stand.

Of course, all of the items they used can be purchased...curse you PB for being so fabulous and tempting us to want to be just like you!

We Go Wednesday - Seattle Market Ghost Tour/Gum Wall/Seven Spooky Sites

Since we are moving into Halloweentime, I thought it would be a perfect time to share the Seattle ghost tour we went on a few weeks ago. The Market Ghost Tours was named one of the Top Ten U.S. Ghost Tours in 2009 & 2010 by Trip Advisor and covers our world-famous Pike Place Market.

You have several options, from family-friendly to the Flesh Avenue tour.  With the boys, we'll take the 5:00 family-friendly tour for $500, Alex.

OK, so first off...the office and meet up location is down Post Alley....

...home of the Gum Wall....

...yes, the Gum Wall. The second germiest place on earth...the first is the Blarney Stone.  As amazing as it sounds and twice as gross in person. Don't you love the ferry boat and Space Needle?

The Gum Wall was the scariest thing we saw there, even though I took lots of photos to see if I could catch a spirit or two. No such luck. The tour is fabulously iWe learned so much about the rich history of the different parts of the Market.

Our fabulous tour guide, Heather.

But since it was the family friendly version, we heard the tame version of stories I could tell were doozies.  For example, the doctor who owned this hotel starved her patients as part of their 'therapy'.  Needless to say, several of them died of starvation. Years later, every time someone tried to open a restaurant there, supernatural activity seriously kicked up.  Starving ghosts, anyone?

One of the stores has a child ghost named Isaac.  This is his little bed to keep him from bothering customers, since the store used to be his home.

I think the creepiest part was learning that the Heaven's Gate cult bought a street tile. Remember them, of the purple blankets and black Nikes?

The tour takes you to the Underground, where lots of eclectic shops are...surprisingly, as many times as we've been down here, we've never seen this!

Next time you visit Seattle, or if you are a local and have never been, definitely put this tour on your to-do list.  We are waiting for the opportunity to do the Lust Avenue tour, for the seedier side of the Market.

And speaking of spooky sites, I just got my hands on the latest Phyllis Hoffman Celebrate Halloween magazine and besides all the amazing party stuff, they did an article on seven spooky sites around the country and I thought I would share just the links, since this post is already getting amazing long!

San Francisco - Alcatraz Island

Fall River (hour outside of Boston) - Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast

Philadelphia - Eastern State Penitentiary (the movie Twelve Monkeys was filmed there)

St. Louis - Lemp Mansion & Lemp Brewery Haunted House

Francisville, LA - The Myrtles Plantation

Asheville, NC - The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa

Austin - Driskill Hotel

Tuesday Trend (On A Thursday) - Ombre

Unless you've been under a party rock, ombre is super hot right now! And if you have been under a party rock, ombre is a French term meaning “shaded” and refers to with color that graduates from light to dark. Personally, I always thought it was hot way back when Gwen Stefani rocked it on her wedding day, WAY before celebrities wanted to let their roots come in and still be chic...

Ugh...I digress. So I'm totally sharing some fabulous ideas...and I snuck in some other fun gradients. Well, to be technical, the title of this post should be gradients, which is a shift in value from light to dark (ombre), or a shift in hue (from yellow to blue). Crap...I did it again...
floral tabletop from Martha Stewart Weddings;

pink cake from Glorious Treats; blueberry cake from Half Baked; orange cake from Superfine Bakery.

Hello, My Name Is Dawn And I'm Addicted To Pinterest

See...this is why I didn't join Pinterest when I first heard about it.  I knew once I started, it wouldn't end. I almost feel like starting a new series...but then I wouldn't be able to stop.  But it's so easy to 'pin' things than bookmark them, then try to give it a clever title so I can remember what it was.

But wait, what is Pinterest?  Well, children, Pinterest allows you to "pin" online photos to virtual pinboards. You can share your boards with others, comment on pins and repin friends’ pins.  You can follow the boards of your favorite people.  What do you pin? Anything you like! Hairstyles, favorite kitten photos, pretty shoes, places you'd like to visit...

For example, my boards are all things party pretty.  I've (so far) 8 boards, like 'Awesome Party Themes' (self-explanatory)...'My Parties' (of course)...

'Treat Cleverness'...seriously fun yummies...isn't that Kermit apple awesome?
'Send Them Home With A Smile' (party favors). My latest one is 'Book Fair Inspiration'...I've added more to my already full plate by becoming our Scholastic Bookfair chair and the fall theme is Book Fair and Beyond! Reading is Out of This World!

Would you like to follow even more crazy with me? You can follow any or all my Pinterest boards.  If you need an invite, just ask! But remember, you've been warned...

A Moment Of Silence

Every year I post a moment of silence on 9-11.

Because it is the 10th anniversary, I wanted to send a special message of support to the families of the victims trapped in the Towers.

To the families of the 911 emergency workers that lost their lives trying to rescue others and.those who died from complications following the disaster.

To the families of fallen service members and civilians involved in The Global War On Terrorism.

We will not forget.

We Go Wednesday - Kaleidescope Cupcakes Grand Opening

I know, I'm stretching out my Houston posts, but seriously, we did so much, I couldn't get it all in one post. So far, we've talked about our trip to Dylan's Candy Bar, and I STILL have to share the cupcake shops we hit up. But today is the about the trip's highlight, attending my sister's cupcake shop grand opening! Kaleidescope Cupcakes started as a online cupcake shop and now is a pickup location, with a event room and gourmet gifts and treats!

The chalkboard signs I did myself, super easy and fun! I purchased unfinished signs, painted them and added the cupcakes.

Fresh coffee and lemonade from Grizzaffi Coffee? Yes, please!

Cake Scene was all about cake pop fabulousness...

Scrumandy's Sweet Indulgence was rocking the homemade marshmallows and candywear...yes, the boot and and high heel are candy!

There is always a craft; kids got to make cupcake liner corsages! Even the boys like wearing them.

The boys were in charge of popcorn...thought it was so cool for like 20 minutes...

If you live in Cypress, you can check out her party space for parties and corporate events. All of the platters, jars, and towers in her shop are available for rent at any event where she provide the desserts. She's still in the cupcake delivery business and services the West Houston/Katy/Cypress area.

Alright, shameless plug, done! But I'm so proud of my sister, so it's all good!
