Tuesday Tip - Easy Cake Decorating With Wrigley

Skittles cake decorating
My next installment using Wrigley confections (check out my wooden gingerbread house ornaments) is a fun and easy way to dress up a plain store bought cake.  Step one...sorting regular and tropical Skittles®.

Step two...start covering your cake.

Skittles cake decorating ombre
Step three...all done. I know, that was so easy. I love the color combo, it's ombre-ish, which is a hot trend right now.   No, I did not bake or frost the cake so don't ask me the pan size or how I iced it so smooth. Didn't you read the first line about 'store-bought'?

Wooden Gingerbread House Ornaments With Wrigley

I was recently contacted by a PR representative for Wrigley to see if I was interested in coming up with some fun candy creations to inspire my readers to show how gum and candy can be used in many fun ways. They recently teamed up with THE Amy Atlas  (check out her Thanksgiving Corn Husk Cookies) and sent me a few of her recipes to either tweak them, or come up with my own. Hmm....playing with candy? Yes please!

They sent me a large candy 'kit' filled with all types of Wrigley candy and the wheels started turning.
Wrigley gingerbread candy house
I'll be unveiling my projects over the next few weeks and to start off, I'm sharing my first idea for the perfect Christmas centerpiece.  Gingerbread house decorating is quintessential Christmas, but I tweaked it a bit to create wooden gingerbread house ornaments that can later be hung on the tree.

I started with unpainted birdhouses, then added a coat of brown paint and white for the roofs....

...and let my imagination go wild.  A large cake platter and some fake snow makes a little Winter Wonderland.

Wrigley gum tree
I made the trees by layering 5 Gum® in juicy green on a styrofoam cone with a red Skittle topper.

Original and peppermint Life Savers® and Skittles® make this fun roof topper and Life Savers Gummies® greet guests coming down the Starbursts® path.

A tiled roof made from  Orbit in tropical, wildberry remix, and peppermint with a tropical Skittles border.
Shingles made from Big Red® gum and a Skittles wreath around the 'window' and trim...I know, a window.

To make the ornaments last another season or two, I would suggest spraying it with a craft sealant.  This is the perfect fun activity for older children and adults to have the fun of gingerbread house decorating without feeling 'kiddish'.  Be warned, hot gluing is a must, the candy will just slide off with regular glue, so definitely not for the young'uns.

Drink Of The Week - Thanksgiving Cocktails

My motto is 'Why reinvent the wheel?' or is it 'Eat or don't eat, but do not play'...anyways, today's D.O.W. is courtesy of Shelley from Divine Party Concepts who has a divine roundup of clever Thanksgiving cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages on her blog.

The turkey cups are so cute, I giggle a little every time I think about them! I can also personally vouch for the Apple Ginger Sparklers, they are a holiday staple at our house.

Fiesta Friday (On A Saturday) - It's Movember!

How could I let Movember slip by without a post, especially since I have several scraggly bros out there participating? The tatas may have October, but November is all about the moustache (mustache if you're nasty...)

What is Movember? During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in the US and around the world. With their Mo’s, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and their  men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

If you are looking for a few fun ideas, these are guaranteed to put a little hair on your lip...

Free printables from The Pretty Blog can add 'staches to everything!

If you want to class it up, attend a Gala PartĂ© near you, going down the first weekend of December that celebrates the craft of growing a Mo and the ultimate accolade - Man of Movember!  I wish my guy could grow his facial hair out to participate (plus he gets even hotter) but alas, those pesky Marine Corps rules have him shaving it all every drill weekend. See what I mean?

Fiesta Friday/Real {Reader} Party -Thanksgiving Tablescapes

Today's Mama Thanksgiving tablescape
Can you believe Thanksgiving is in less than a week? Wasn't it just Halloween? Over the next few posts, I'll be sharing lots of  table inspiration.  If you are looking for a few crafty ideas for your table, check out my Today's Mama post on Fiskar's clever cleverness.

And speaking of which, Sandra from Sweet Sensations sent in her take on the kids' table...
Kids' Thanksgiving table
I’ve always thought it was unfair at big family gatherings for kids to have to sit at their own table. If there isn’t room, or if the host/hostess insist that kids have their own table how about making it special for them.

To start with, I found a paper table cover that is one giant activity pad. The kids can color, play word games, tic tac toe, and find their way through a turkey maze. It can keep them busy for hours. I know a couple of adults in my family that could amuse themselves for most of the evening with this also.

I bundled several crayons and tied them with ribbon as favors for each child. A pack of 48 from the dollar store will go a long way. Since this is a kids table I had to get an expert's opinion on how it would work for the holiday. My granddaughter and niece loved it. Clearly they like the banana cupcakes I made as well.

Thanks for sharing! Stay tuned for more inspiration...

Tuesday Tip (On A Thursday) - Paper Nook

Paper Nook drawstring favor bags Mario party
So I am sadly remiss in not doing this post sooner...I've been meaning to for months, ever since I discovered Tacy Osler and her super cute shop, Paper Nook, earlier this year. Her work has been popping up everywhere, so I better share before she goes Hollywood. She custom made our cute favor bags for the Mario party and LEGO bags for the little one's party.

We ended up not using the LEGO bags, but that's ok, we are set for next year.  But that doesn't mean I'm not coming back for more, I love these bags, especially since I'm so not a fan of the plastic character ones.  These are truly worth keeping, a generously sized 6" x 8", made of 100% cotton,  and has a drawstring for easy closure.

You know you need these for the holidays...

But her shop is full of all kinds of fun, from cupcake toppers, gift tags and stickers to personalized note card and wall prints. And everything can be fabulously coordinated!

Stay up to date with Tacy on her blog and Facebook .
