Summer entertaining is my favorite time of the year; sitting on our porch with the sun setting over our greenbelt, drinking a glass of wine and enjoying a meal is heaven. With Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer, right around the corner, it's time to start hosing off the lawn furniture and getting ready with a few easy patriotic ideas!
Today I'm sharing great tips on how to create a casual summer appetizer buffet gathering; I'm all about keeping things super easy so I can enjoy my time right alongside guests. Slaving away in the kitchen while everyone is enjoying themselves is not how I like to spend my time.
With a trip to my local Fred Meyer
and a little help from TRISCUIT Crackers with toppings that are perfect for summer, we are going to make a tasty showpiece as a hearty appetizer.
We are currently obsessed with TRISCUIT Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil crackers; I love that they can be topped with savory or sweet ingredients for perfect nibbling! My husband is always eating them with roast beef slices, so I thought they would make a great appetizer topped with freshly grilled beef sirloin roast. Here's the oh-so-easy recipe for Steak + Brie TRISCUIT Crackers:
What You'll Need:
20 TRISCUIT Cracked Pepper & Olive Oil crackers
1/2 pound thinly sliced beef sirloin roast
1 package of brie cheese, softened
1/4 cup arugula
1. Top a cracker with a slice of beef sirloin roast.
2. Smear with brie.
3. Top with a few leaves of arugula.
Make a few crackers to demonstrate, then leave out all the fixings so guests can help themselves.
We rounded out our meal with even easier ideas; I picked up potato salad (because mine takes hours to make) and served in appropriately patriotic bowls.
One of my favorite summer ideas is making fruit bowls by hollowing out navel oranges. It's not as hard as you think, just use a spoon to scoop out the fruit. Chop up the oranges into smaller chunks, then set aside. Cut up other summer fruit like watermelon and strawberries, then add everyone to the fruit bowl to serve. So fun and less dishes to wash, plus orange peels in your disposal are a great way to freshen it. The more you know...
I love Fred Meyer's Private Selection products. They have a fabulous selection of gourmet and artisan foods. I picked up a package of their madeleines and simply served them on a cake stand. If you have time, you can do them up dipping them in melted chocolate or serve instead of pound cake or shortcakes with strawberries and whipped cream.
I couldn't believe that these great striped paper plates and cloth napkins were in Target's Dollar Spot! It is easy to dress them up layered with woven chargers and napkin rings.
A few simple floral arrangements round out our table. I love this time of year when farmer's markets flourish and beautiful bouquets can be found for pennies. If you are lucky enough to have a yard full of flowers, just pick a few and add to a simple drinking glass or vessel.
